Fine and Rare Dutch Neoclassical Lacquered and Inlaid Mahogany and Maple Occasional Table

early 19th century, the circular top with a central octagonal lacquered chinoiserie panel edged in banding and set in a figural maple ground, the perimeter of the top with maple and mahogany rope banding, supported by a delicate curvate base of cast iron consisting of three legs, all veneered in mahogany with maple edging, the base joined by a circular central shelf with silk fringe along the bottom edge.
h. 30-1/2", dia. 29-3/4"

  • Condition: **Handsome table in overall very good condition, exhibiting normal wear and shrinkage.

The top displays some minor crazing to the lacquer and a few shrinkage veneer tears, the largest of which has been professionally filled. There is one veneer loss to the vertical edge of the top, about 3/8" x 3/4".

The top detaches from the base via iron pins that slide through a slot in the top of the legs. The legs appear to be primarily wood with iron sleeves extending some distance into them from the pin mechanism.

The base is sturdy and free of movement at the glue joints. Three is a missing section of fringe at its stretcher.
