Fine Sypher & Co., New York, Marquetry-Inlaid Kidney-Form Desk

late 19th/early 20th century, the shaped inset leather top in a line-strung and satinwood-banded frame, the conforming case of double-pedestal form, each with a bank of four bowfront drawers with urn and vine inlay in the manner of Robert Adam, and flanked by bellflower-inlaid pilasters, raised on line-inlaid tapering feet, the bottom of a drawer retaining a paper label "Sypher & Co. New York".

  • Condition: **In overall very good, approaching excellent, condition.

    Very solid and stable with no movement in the case or legs observed.

    Normal minor rubbing and wear, most notably some dents and finish losses to one end of the molding at the edge of the top.

    The top exhibits some losses, tears at the perimeter edges, loose area and a section where the upper finish has lifted and is missing from its backing.

    Drawers slide effortlessly. Retains all locks. No key. The drawers are constructed with mahogany secondary woods.

    Includes four casters, now detached.
