Four-Piece S. Kirk & Son Sterling Silver Tea Set

first quarter 20th century, Baltimore, Maryland, including a coffeepot, h. 14-3/4", a teapot, h. 12-1/2", a cream jug, h. 9-1/4", and a waste bowl, h. 5-1/4", all but the latter of tall ovoid form with pedestal foot and squared, ram's masque-crested handle, the waste bowl of hemispherical form with pedestal foot, the pots with gooseneck spouts and hinged, domed lids with grape cluster finials, all decorated with realistically detailed repousse roses, each piece engraved around the inside edge of the foot "Kate Cabell Claiborne 1905".

Provenance: Katherine Hamilton Cabell (1854-1924) of Richmond, Virginia, wife of Herbert Augustine Claiborne (1819-1902) and later William Ruffin Cox (1831-1919).


  • Condition: **An attractive set in good condition. The cream jug has some minor dents around the perimeter of the foot giving it a slight wobble, but otherwise no issues noted beyond the expected surface wear consistent with age. Beautiful repousse work. Each piece marked (on the underside) "S. Kirk & Son Co. / 925/1000 / 112". Note the revised catalogue description detailing the inscription around the inside edge of the foot.
