French Gilt-Bronze and Boullework Encrier

fourth quarter 19th century, in the Louis XIV taste, the bombe sides and pen holder decorated with boullework depicting birds and scrollwork, the corners with Egyptian monopodial feet, the ink pots with gilt-bronze covers set with artichoke-molded knops on a scrolled ground.

  • Condition: **All bronze mounts and tortoiseshell intact with some scattered wear to gilt. There are scattered portions of brass scrollwork inlay which have lifted and have some scattered losses, primarily in pen tray but some sides as well. There is an unexplained pinhole to knop on one ink pot cover.
