Unusual French Belle Epoque Rosso Antico Marble and Gilt-Bronze Ewer-Form Urn, fourth quarter 19th century, the marble base mounted with bold bronze masques supporting the urn-form body, draped with bronze leafy swags, a lion's head supporting the cupid "handle" opposite the lion-molded "spout", with a mottled marble cover with a gilt-bronze finial, h. 31-1/2", w. 10", d. 10".

  • Condition: The stem of the urn has been repaired with traces of a crack encircling the circumference, and the stem foot was reinforced with wood blocks under the laurel mount, which is loose. One of the bronze cherub mounts is detached at the feet. There are a few tiny chips to the urn edges, mostly to the rim and feet. The finial knop on the lid is loose. The urn exhibits some natural-occurring fissures in the marble and mounts. Light oxidation to bronze and surface scratches are also present, which are to be expected with age and use.
