Exceptional French Marble, Bronze Dore and Enamel Skeleton Clock, fourth quarter 18th century, Rouen, the red griotte marble base beneath the lunette-form gilt-bronze supports decorated with delicate gilt stars on a bleu-de-roi ground and holding the clockworks, signed by the maker on the dial, "Marteau Fils a Rouen", the chapter ring decorated to match, the bezel decorated with a spray of laurel leaves on the base, and the crest with an eagle and pierced scrollwork, h. 16-3/4", w. 9-3/4", d. 5".


  • Condition: In "as found" condition. The front gilt-bronze plate in the base is loose from its mounting. The enameling is in excellent condition. The gilt surface with very minor wear. The marble base is fine. Retains its pendulum, winding key and bell. We are uncertain of its working condition.
