French Provincial Cherrywood Bonnetiere, mid-19th century, the molded and domed cornice with canted corners, above a conforming case fitted with a single door inset with two panels, the upper one shaped, over a shaped apron, raised on shaped feet, h. 96", w. 53", d. 29".

  • Condition: The case in overall sound condition, retaining its original large iron box lock, continuous fiche hinge and escutcheon. Several separation/shrinkage spots visible where the cabinet has been joined. The lower inset door panel exhibiting minor shrinkage to reveal a 1/8" opening to the case. There are light surface scratches and abrasions to the case all commensurate with age and use. The interior appears to retain one original shelf. The door is currently offset from the case in a way that when closed the lock does not completely engage the keeper, leaving a small opening above the doors' top on the left side. It is our opinion that with the proper cabinetmaker's adjustment, this issue should be able to be corrected. Otherwise, a sturdy piece.
