French Restauration Giltwood Mirror, second quarter 19th century, the ogee-molded surround with an egg-and-dart outer edge and delicately molded sprays of laurel branches of scrollwork, h. 41", w. 28-1/4".

  • Condition: In overall very good condition. The gilt surface is substantially intact, with some areas of rubbing exposing the underlying red boulle, and a fewer than normal minor chips and losses. The gilt surface exhibits some cracking/crazing throughout. There are losses to the flat perimeter edge of the gilt at each lower corner, about 3/8" diameter. There is one loss to that flat edge gilt further up the side, about 1/8" wide by 3/8" long. The exposed mirror plate measures about 33-3/4" high by 21" wide. The mirror is crisp and clear, suggesting it is a later addition.
