French Restauration Silver Coffeepot

Paris, 1819-1838, by Antoine Levasseur (fl. 1825-1862), first standard (.950) silver, the ovoid body with waisted neck, hinged lid with acanthus bud finial, gooseneck spout with ram's masque, and arched rosewood handle with ram's and maiden's masque mounts, the whole decorated with leaf-and-dart banding and raised on a waisted pedestal foot.

  • Condition: **Several scattered bumps and dents on the body, none very deep and the largest about 1/2" long. Otherwise in quite good shape. Some hairline shrinkage cracks on the handle, but it remains structurally sound with no give. Nice details with light wear. Small testing mark on the inside rim of the top. Marked on the collar and inside the lid with the Paris first standard "vieillard" mark in use 1819-1838, on the base with the Paris medium guarantee mark in use 1819-1838, and on the underside of the lid with the "A + Mercury's cap and star" maker's mark of Antoine Levasseur.
