George III Ebonized Chinoiserie Cabinet, early 19th century, the broken molded cornice above a case fitted with two doors, the lower section fitted with two cabinet doors, raised on bun feet, the whole richly decorated with gilt and polychrome figural scenes in the chinoiserie taste, h. 88", w. 39", d. 20".

  • Condition: The Japan work appears to be 19th century, with minor gradations in level seen in work from that era. All front elements appear to be original, except for a 2" restoration to the rear of mid-molding. Shrinkage to door panels reveals underlying breadboard construction, all commensurate with age. The backboards are replacements, and the interior repainted. The cutlery drawer in the lower section is a contemporary addition. Japanning is generally in good condition, with one minor horizontal loss on the left stile, and some minor scattered losses.
