George III Mahogany Chest

fourth quarter 18th century, the serpentine top with a molded edge, above a conforming case fitted with three short drawers over three graduated long drawers, raised on bracket feet.
h. 35", w. 37-1/4", d. 20-1/2"

  • Provenance: The Collection of the Late Dr. E. Ralph Lupin, New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Condition: **In "as found" condition. The top has a shrinkage crack that runs all the way across from edge to edge. There are some surface scuffs and wear to the finish on the top (mostly at the front corners). Scattered old dings and scars consistent with age and use. The brasses and keyhole plates appear to be original. Both sides have a top-to-bottom vertical shrinkage crack. Good color and overall patina.
