George III Mahogany Secretary Bookcase

fourth quarter 18th century, the molded cornice above two astragal-glazed doors, opening to a fabric-lined interior, the lower section fitted with a drop-front drawer opening to an inset leather writing surface and a variety of drawers and cubbyholes, over three graduated long drawers, raised on splayed feet.

  • Condition: **In overall very good polished and restored condition.

    The case appears to be tight and structurally sound.

    Exhibits normal shrinkage, wear and indications of age and use, including repairs and small chips to the molding on the top of the base around the upper section, and some losses to the edge of the top on the returns, about 1/8" deep, including some filler there. There is an area of filler on the upper outside corner of one front leg.

    Lower three locks are replaced. Key is not present.
