George III Sterling Silver Cake Basket

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Five silver soldered repaired splits/breaks to the body, all on the wavy gadroons: the two on the ends of the bowl, and three scattered in the pierce-work. These are well done and inconspicuous. The handle also has two repaired breaks, reinforced on the underside with oval silver braces which are visible on the upper side along with the re-worked reticulation. Hallmarked (on the body, near the handle) with 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "L" for 1766-1767; and 4) the "E.A" maker's mark of Edward Aldridge. Marks very good. An attractive piece with some well-executed repairs.
