George III Sterling Silver Coffeepot

hallmarked London, 1771-1772, by Charles Wright, the pear-shaped body with"gooseneck" spout, crested S-scroll wooden handle, hinged domed lid with acanthus bud finial and domed foot, decorated with repousse rococo scrolls, flowers, laurel swags and annulation.

  • Condition: **Scattered scuffs and bumps commensurate with age, but no breaks or significant dents noted. Wear to the details in relief. A tiny 1/8" annealing flaw on the body near the spout. The handle is a later replacement, with solder marks around the retaining pins and the upper portion slightly extruded; the handle is secure and functional. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "Q" for 1771-1772; and 4) the "CW" maker's mark of Charles Wright. Marks good; lightly worn but clean and fully legible. Monogrammed on the underside "S-H".
