George III Sterling Silver Tray

hallmarked London, 1795-1796, by John Crouch & Thomas Hannam, of oval form with reeded rim and opposing handles en suite, the plateau with an engraved and bright-cut band of paterae and foliate swags, centering an ermine-mantled armorial of Bower impaling Colquhoun.

  • Condition: **In overall good condition with the expected patina of age: surface scuffs, nicks, dings, etc., but no dents, breaks or repairs noted. Mellowing to the bright-cutting. Nicely engraved and hatched armorial. Some preliminary chasing on the underside which appears to be the outline of an unfinished armorial. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "u" for 1795-1796; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "IC/TH" maker's mark of Crouch & Hannam.
