George III-Style Ebonized Secretary Cabinet

  • Condition: The decoration appears to be of the period. The top has numerous tiny nicks, scratches and abrasions consistent with great age, but no large or distracting losses. The interior fixed portion of the writing surface has a tight shrinkage crack, and tight shrinkage cracks exhibit the construction of the front lid and doors. The feet appear to be first period, but have some paint loss on the lower edge. The pulls on the lid are in the original holes and are probably original. The brass appliques and hinges all appear to be original. There is a minor loss to one on the lower right corner. The doors have each had an additional knob, possibly not original. The base originally had two interior shelves, now missing but the sawtooth supports are still in place. NOTE - Close inspection of this piece indicates it is likely late 18th or early 19th century.
