George IV Sterling Silver Mug

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. No dents, breaks, holes or repairs noted; scattered scuffs and dings present. An inscription, extending halfway around the body, has been removed from the band directly below the "vintage" band; faint scratch marks and traces of the inscription are visible. The interior bottom of the cup is scratched up, probably from use as a pen cup or such; traces of interior gilding remain. The cup has scattered black spots and areas of oxidation and needs professional cleaning. Hallmarked (on the body, near the handle) with: 1) the London leopard's head; 2) the sterling lion passant; 3) the date letter "k" for 1825-1826; 4) the George IV bust duty mark; and 5) the "GK" maker's mark of George Knight. Marks very good. The underside with accession information in ink under clear lacquer: "812.93.E422.297 George Knight London 1825 5.8 oz."
