German Historizmus .800 Silver Nef, first quarter 20th century, by Ludwig Neresheimer, Hanau, in the traditional form of a galleon, well-detailed with armorial-engraved sails, crow's nests, sailors, lanterns, anchors and wirework rigging, the whole raised on four figural hippocampus feet concealing functional wheels, the deck lifting to reveal the gilt interior, h. 13", l. 10-1/2", 30.85 t. oz.

  • Condition: Fair. Considerable oxidation; in need of a proper polishing which would require disassembly (made possible by the detachable masts, figures, etc. bolted to the deck). One of the lanterns is broken but attached. One or two small cracks in the railing and ship's wheel. The wire rigging is broken and detached throughout, but mostly still present. Parcel gilding on the deck. Marked (on the upper edge of the hull) with the German crown & moon reichsmark, "Germany / 800" and the Neresheimer trademark. A handsome piece requiring little more than a proper cleaning.
