  • Provenance: Private collection, New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Notes: Emil & Ludwig Rodek of Vienna were suppliers to the Austrian Court of leather, wood, bronze and fancy goods, and were particularly known for their fans and, as here, walking sticks, parasols and umbrellas.
  • Condition: **In generally good condition, with no breaks or repairs noted. The enamel ferrules are good. There is a small chip on both the glass capstick handle and the porcelain handle, two small molding flaws in the glass knob handle, two small dents on the gunmetal pommel, and some chips at the top of the shaft (at the ferrule) of the red enamel/glass knob example. Both the parasol and umbrella appear in good shape with no tears, ripped stitches, detached or broken parts. The brass ring on the retaining strap of the umbrella is lacking. There is some wear and loss to the entredeux on the parasol, mostly on the topmost row at the crease of the cloth. Please note that this lot is sold as a decorative lot and we do not guarantee the functionality of the parasol umbrella, though they do appear intact and without issue. The case exhibits some light discoloration, with some tears at the interior edges (visible in catalogue photograph); the exterior is good, with some separation at the left joins and scattered bumps and scratches.
