Good Chinese Export Deux-Couleur-Gilded Black-Lacquer Workbox, in "Mandarin's Garden" decor, second quarter 19th century, the interior fitted with a fifteen-compartment lift-out tray, two of the compartments covered, four with pierced bone grilles containing carved bone thread containers, a thimble and a floss winder, retains a pair of elaborately carved bone needle cases, a pair of bone needle threaders, a bone awl, a carved bone shuttle, a bone marker, a padded bone finger pin cushion and four bone flowerhead-form winders, the whole supported on diminutive carved giltwood winged dragon-masque feet, h. 4-1/2", w. 11-1/2", d. 8-1/4".
