Good Pair of Victorian Ducal Sterling Silver Sauceboats

hallmarked London, 1861-1862, by Robert Garrard II (1793-1881; free 1816), each of deep batteau form, with gadrooned rim, acanthus crested "S"-scroll handle and raised on three beaded acanthus-crested scrolling rocaille feet, engraved with the crest of the Duke of Richmond, presumably for Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox (1818-1903), 6th Duke in 1860.

  • Condition: **A very handsome pair in good condition. Some scattered scuffs and dings commensurate with age, but no dents, breaks or repairs noted. Very minor, nearly imperceptible, area of firescale on the underside of one boat. Very hefty; lovely detail and engraving. Each piece hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London leopard's head; 3) the date letter "f" for 1861-1862; 4) the Victoria bust duty mark; and 5) the crowned "RG" maker's mark of Robert Garrard II.
