Gorham Coin Silver Pitcher

dated 1863, Providence, Rhode Island, the ovoid body decorated with repousse arrowhead leaves mantling a scrolling oval cartouche, the cylindrical collar with integral spout, with acanthus-crested S-scroll handle and pedestal foot, engraved, on the cartouche, "Crawford E. Lindsey / May 27th . 1863".

    Notes: Crawford Easterbrooks Lindsey (1838-1907) was the treasurer of the Fall River, Massachusetts Cotton Mill and served as mayor of Fall River in 1878 and 1879. On May 27, 1863 - clearly the occasion for which this handsome pitcher was presented - he married Mary Elizabeth Chace (1844-1918).
