  • Provenance: The Gorham pieces are marked with consecutive special order codes EHJ through EHO; which Gorham records show the order processed between February 10 and May 26, 1914. The kettle burner - a stock piece - bears the Gorham date mark for 1915. Special orders were sometimes made to Gorham directly by the consumer, but much more often through a prominent retailer, as here. The colonial style of this piece is very much in keeping with the tastes of wealthy Bostonians of the time.
