Handsome Chinese Export Imari Punch Bowl, mid-18th century, decorated with gilt-trimmed pots of flowers in iron-red and cobalt, against a cobalt ground with gilt flowers, the interior decorated with vines and leaves, on a contemporary hardwood stand, h. 7-1/4", dia. 12". Provenance: The Estate of Karolyn Kuntz Westervelt, New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: Overall condition as expected with age, material and gentle use. Old professional repairs along the rim with some inpainting on exterior and some restoration applied to reinforce underside. An accretion on the outside that should be easily removed with a damp cloth. Scattered firing anomalies throughout including some unevenness underneath the glaze and a few tiny pin-sized losses to the glaze from the kiln. A few scattered nicks to the rim. Some light surface abrasions throughout, particularly along the interior and light wear to color and gilt consistent with age.
