Notes: Henri Matisse created numerous studies and paintings of women readers from the mid-1890s until the mid-1920s, the majority of which were modeled after his daughter Marguerite or wife Amelie. The lithograph here, probably modeled after Marguerite, was created in three closely related versions between 1923 and 1925 - "Petite Liseuse", "Grande Liseuse", "Liseuse au Bouquet de Roses" and "Liseuse au Vase Chinois".


  • Condition: **Unframed for condition report.
    No signs of past restoration.
    Light brown staining along edges and lower right and left corners and middle lower edge from previous hinges.
    Two hinges en verso along top edge.
    Light surface dirt and light linear staining from matting.
    On back, remnants of hinge (center left edge).
    Small crop marks in each of the corners.
    Framed and matted (no glass). Frame with surface marks, nicks and abrasions.
