Imposing Pair of French Barbotine Majolica Musicians on Pedestals

first quarter 20th century, the polychrome musicians, one female and one male, dressed in 18th-century costume, the tapered pedestals decorated with sculpted flowers, swagging and scrolled feet, with faux marbre painted tops.
h. 77-3/4", w. 17", d. 13"

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

  • Condition: **On the female figure, there is a repair to the back of the proper left elbow and forearm, and a probable repair to the neck of the pedestal with overglazing that has toned and exhibits some flaking. On the male figure, there is a notable repair to the left ankle and knee, and a chip to the other knee. The guitar has been repaired at the neck and the headstock, and the headstock is currently loose. Both figures exhibit small scattered losses and the scrolled feet on the self-bases have been repaired - three have old stapled repairs to their undersides. In overall good estate condition - condition is commensurate with age, material and size.
