  • Condition: **In overall good condition. Fine scattered surface scuffs consistent with age, slightly more visible on the smaller plates, and with minor pinpoint dings, but otherwise in very fine condition. Twenty-eight pieces marked (on the underside) with the retailer's stamp "Brand-Chatillon Co.", "Sterling" and the Durgin "D in an oval" trademark, with the pattern number "60-1" on the small plates and "6-1" on the large. These additionally marked with the Durgin/Gorham date marks, thus: five large plates, 1927 (airplane); twelve small and eight large plates, 1928 (wheat sheaf); three large plates, 1929 (zeppelin). Note that the remaining four small plates are not by Durgin but rather have the trademark of Graff, Washbourne & Dunn of New York. These are, however, of an identical design as the rest, with negligible difference in the execution of the details, and likewise marked with the Brand-Chatillon retailer's stamp. Very likely Brand-Chatillon - for whom this was an exclusive pattern - commissioned it from both suppliers. A rare, large and hefty set.
