Interesting Edwardian Inlaid Rosewood Drop-Front Desk/Portfolio Cabinet

late 19th century, with a hinged lid opening to a small storage compartment, the drop lid opening to reveal a segmented interior and two swing-out inkwells and pen holders, raised on a trestle-form base joined by a turned stretcher.
h. 45-1/2", w. 21", d. 20"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition. No losses to inlay observed.

Functioning lock and key. The key also triggers a latch to release the lid at the top of the case. The lid pivots to reveal a 2" tall concealed well.

The interior retains inkwells, and is missing one platform from a pen/quill holder. The writing surface is now lined with cardboard rather than baize or leather.

The rosewood panel on the back of the case exhibits some finish losses, some open grain and a veneer chip at its bottom edge. It appears to be slightly warped. It may be reversed.

    Depth of feet: 19-1/2"
Depth of piece with fall front opened: 26"
