Interesting Edwardian Inlaid Rosewood Drop-Front Desk/Portfolio Cabinet

late 19th century, with a hinged lid opening to a small storage compartment, the drop lid opening to reveal a segmented interior and two swing-out inkwells and pen holders, raised on a trestle-form base joined by a turned stretcher.
h. 45-1/2", w. 21", d. 20"

  • Condition: In very good overall condition. No losses to inlay observed.

Functioning lock and key. The key also triggers a latch to release the lid at the top of the case. The lid pivots to reveal a 2" tall concealed well.

The interior retains inkwells, and is missing one platform from a pen/quill holder . The writing surface is not lined with cardboard rather than baize or leather.

The rosewood panel on the back of the case exhibits some finish losses, some open grain and a veneer chip at it's bottom edge. It appears to be slightly warped. It may be reversed.

    Depth of feet: 19 1/2"
Depth of piece with fall front opened: 26"
