Italian Patinated Bronze of Silenus and the Infant Dionysus

fourth quarter 19th century, after the ca. 2nd century CE Roman marble (itself a copy of a 3rd century BCE Greek sculpture) discovered in the Gardens of Sallust, Rome and now conserved at the Louvre, Paris, on a carved wood plinth.

  • Condition: **In overall good estate condition with scattered nicks, surface scratches, areas of abrading, and rubbing to patination. Missing fig leaf (nail still present). Possible small old filler repair at bottom of tree trunk. Whitish accretions in more deeply modeled and textured areas. Greenish/gray patina. Base with chips and losses. All consistent with age, material and usage.
