Bunsei period (1818-1830), the rectangular box with three drawers and decorated with Shibayama lacquer in the round with a riparial scene with chrysanthemums, ducks and minogame, with silver swing handle, charcoal burner and double-lidded ash tray, all decorated with engraved chrysanthemums, together with a bamboo and silver kiseru pipe of later (late 19th century) date.

  • Condition: **Fascinating lot in moderate condition consistent with age and use.
    Exquisite decoration with scattered surface losses and rubbing. Top molded edges with dings to the corners and to both sides where the silver handle is attached. The handle is slightly bent. One element of the dual pipe hooks lacking.
    The side front molded edges each with a crack midway down and 1-1/2" loss below that on one side.
    Charcoal burner and ashtray good, now generally oxidized below the silver covers.
    Bamboo pipe with a 2" crack within the silver scrollwork. Remaining bamboo holding the mouthpiece cracked with a 1" loss.
