Japanese Six-Panel Sumi Folding Screen


  • Condition: The red and black lacquered wood frame retains engraved metal plaques and small flower heads with the expected scuffs to the wood edges. The dark blue embroidered bands framing the screen exhibit scattered wear, primarily on the end panels. The raised cloud decoration on the darker areas around the image generally oxidized with scattered scuffs and general wear to the ground pigment. The scene with an old tear or two, all secured. Faint, old discolorations/stains, primarily at the left inner fold. The edges of the outer folds lined with paper and painted to integrate continuously with the scene. The sumi painting in overall good condition with very scattered small surface anomalies and a small "blemish" to the tiger's muzzle. The brown and tan figured Gracie paper in excellent condition.
