Large Continental Silverplate Jardiniere fourth quarter 19th century, of navette form, the slightly waisted sides decorated with openwork cartouches of frolicking putti separated by imbricate panels, the elaborately figured rim crested by rococo cartouches on the sides and scrolling mascaron handles on the ends, the whole raised on four shell and scroll feet and fitted with a tin liner, h. 8", l. 19", w. 9-1/2".

  • Condition: Good. The hex nuts securing the cresting cartouches and handles are a little loose, and the lower bolt on one handle is a replacement, but all these fittings are secure. Otherwise, the piece is in very good condition with no dents, breaks or repairs noted. The tin liner shows some scattered losses to the black-painted finish, but is in generally good condition.
