Large French Spelter Figural Double-Ball Clock/Barometer

late 19th century, the figure signed "A. Carrier", after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887), the figure holding a brass sphere in each hand, one with a spring-driven time-and-strike clock, the other a Holosteric barometer, mounted to a conforming marble base.
h. 47", w. 20", d. 17"

  • Condition: **In "as found" condition. Both balls have small dents. One has a replacement brass finish nut on the back side. There is some looseness to both where they attach to the figure's hands. They need to be tightened from the inside. There is chipping and losses to the green marble base. Good patina to the female figure. We are uncertain as to the working condition of the clock or the barometer. No winding key present.
