Large Hand-Painted Porcelain and Gilt-Bronze Centerpiece

ca. 1868-1887, Paris, the oval centerpiece decorated with a panel of two little girls dressing up two dogs (after Fragonard) on the obverse and a landscape panel on the reverse, trimmed in raised gilt with hand-painted flowers and set with pierced gilt-bronze mounts in the rococo taste, marked on the bottom by Marx Eugene Clauss.
h. 17", w. 20-1/2", d. 11"

Provenance: Estate of Nancy Nye Harrell, Houston, Texas.

  • Condition: **The bottom of one handle is lacking its screw. Instead of replacing it, putty was placed in the space between the mount and the porcelain to prevent them from knocking together. Putty can be easily removed with cleaning. Some light oxidation and losses to gilding are present in the scrollwork on the handles and base. In overall very good condition.
