Exceptional and Large Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase, Meiji period (1868-1912)/Taisho period (1912-1926), late 19th/early 20th century, the sumptuously decorated vase with petal banding along the splayed mouth rim over a cylindrical neck with two dragon handles, covered with floral roundels and dragon and phoenix medallions against a russet kinseki ground, the body of the vase decorated with alternating pale blue and green panels, each containing a dynamically articulated dragon and phoenix, the panels set against a black kinseki ground, a dragon-form mark incised on the underside, h. 18-1/4", w. 9".


  • Condition: In excellent condition. There is a tiny round loss (perhaps 1/16" diameter) to the black field on one handle. A few even smaller surface losses to turquoise edge at shoulder, and some very minor wear to edge of a panel commensurate with age.
