Late George III Sterling Silver Tankard, hallmarked London, 1795-1796, by Walter Brind I (1722-1796; free 1743), of traditional slightly tapering cylindrical form with reeded bands, flat hinged lid, openwork billet and squared cavetto-crested handle, h. 7-1/2", l. 7", dia. 4-3/8", 26.88 t. oz.


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Very Good. Scattered light surface wear consistent with age, but otherwise no condition issues noted: no dents, breaks or repairs. Faint inventory scratch marks on the underside. Hallmarked (on the body, near the rim and on the underside of the lid) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "u" for 1795-1795; 4) the "WB" maker's mark of Walter Brind I, and 5) the George III bust duty mark (lacking on the lid). The marks on the body are rubbed, especially the "W" of the maker's mark; the marks on the lid are excellent, with the exception of the right side of the maker's mark
