Louis XIV-Style Giltwood Bench

late 19th century, the shaped rectangular padded and tufted top above a conforming pierced shell- and foliate-carved frieze, raised on cabriole legs headed by masque carving and ending in scrolled toes.
h. 18", w. 46", d. 21"

  • Condition: **In overall good condition.

The bench is sturdy and functional.

There are a few shrinkage gaps between the legs and apron. There is a loss/chip to the corner of the apron at its joint with one leg.

Rubbing, wear and losses to the gilding, and in some cases the underlying gesso. A few normal flakes to the edges of carved surfaces.

The upholstery is missing one button. It exhibits some very faint staining, light wear, and a few stray loose threads. The under-upholstery is firm and retains its shape.
