Louis XV Ebonized Bureau Plat

18th century and later, the rectangular top with an inset leather writing surface and within an ormolu band with corner accents, above a conforming frieze fitted with a central drawer flanked to either side by two small drawers, raised on cabriole legs ending in sabots.
h. 31-1/2", w. 64-1/2", d. 33"

  • Condition: **In good restored condition. The ebonizing has been renewed. It exhibits rubbing, some wear and abrasions. The piece exhibits normal shrinkage, repairs and indications of age and use.

The inset leather top is buckled along straight lines, presumably due to underlying shrinkage or movement. There is a separation at the seam where two pieces of leather join.

The top and some drawers exhibit line incising that appears to be missing brass stringing.

Drawers with locks. Includes one key.

One leg exhibits surface irregularities suggesting a repair that is masked by the finish.
