Louis XV-Style Giltwood Vitrine

late 19th century, the domed top painted sky-blue and with applied giltwood carvings, the front with a foliate avian shield crest above a single glazed door, and two lower panels painted with cherubs, the sides glazed and paneled en suite, raised on bellflower-carved scrolling legs to peg feet.
h. 84", w. 39", d. 20"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition exhibiting normal shrinkage, rubbing, wear and losses to the surface, most notably gilt and gesso losses at perimeter edges.

There are paint losses to the lower right painted panel on the front, and the corresponding panel on the right side of the case.

Door retains original lock. No key present. The door scrapes some on the bottom edge. NOTE: We made no effort to level the piece.

The upholstery on the interior bottom exhibits losses. That bottom is not visible when the door is closed.

The case appears to be sturdy and solid. No play in the legs noted.
