Louis XVI Inlaid Cylinder Desk and a Restauration Commode

the desk, late 18th century, with parquetry inlay on the top, sides and cylinder, the latter centered by a marquetry panel, the desk opening with a mechanical mechanism as the writing slide is pulled out, raised on tapering legs, h. 39", w. 35-3/4", d. 18", and the mahogany and ebonized commode, second quarter 19th century, with a drawer over a door, flanked by scroll pilasters with bronze mounts, h. 35-1/2", w. 25-1/8", d. 17-1/2".


  • Condition: **The desk in good polished and restored condition with wear, shrinkage, scattered veneer repairs and a handful of small losses. The lid extends as designed. The interior inset leather writing surface is worn. Locks with no keys. The commode with wear and stains to the top and shrinkage. The case is sturdy and solid. Shrinkage crack in drawer face; pulls later.
