Louis XVI Mahogany and Marble-Top Commode

late 18th century, the rectangular marble top with turreted corners, above a conforming case fitted with three long paneled drawers, raised on tapering circular legs ending in brass caps.
h. 33", w. 46", d. 21-1/2"

Provenance: Lucullus, New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition, handsomely polished and in ready-to-use condition. The surface exhibits some minor scrubs and the case normal shrinkage and wear.

The marble top exhibits a few tiny flea bites along its molded edges, and a shallow flake to a rear corner. There are several chips/flakes along the back edge of the top.

The case is sturdy with no apparent movement at the joint of the legs and case.
One board in the top drawer is loose due to a small splinter/loss to the tenon that secures it. Some wear to drawer runners.

There is a tight shrinkage tear in a side panel that does not extend its height.
