Napoleon III Brass-Mounted Rosewood Six-Piece Parlor Suite

third quarter 19th century, comprised of a sofa, h. 42-1/4", w. 71-1/2", d. 30", four armchairs, h. 40", and a side chair, h. 39-1/4", each piece with a floral- and leaf-carved crest, brass moldings on the back, arms, seat rails and cabriole legs, each retaining its period Aubusson floral upholstery.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition. The frames appear to have been polished and restored in the past, the upholstery conserved.

The upholstery exhibits some sun-bleaching, scattered light stains, wear and indication of age and use. Wear, including a tear to the fabric, is observed on two seats of the armchairs. No other tears or rips noted. The surface exhibits normal rubbing, wear and some typical chips and flakes to the tips of carved surfaces, most notably to crest carving.

All pieces are tight and appear solid at their glue joints. All arms are tight. Two armchair backs exhibit evidence of past gluing/repairs near the seam where the top rail meets the stile.

Casters appear to be original. One side chair caster is loose but present.
