Napoleon III Giltwood Console and Mirror

mid-19th century, in the Louis XVI taste, the mirror surmounted by a floral garland, the domed and beveled plate within a molded frame and with applied floral garlands and lower foliate scrolls, the console with an inset D-form marble top above a conforming frieze with a pendant scrolling foliate design, raised on circular foliate-modeled legs joined by an urn-centered stretcher and ending in toupie feet, bearing a paper label.

  • Provenance: Descended in the family of Rafael C. and Ethel Regan Goyeneche, Sr., Mexico City, Mexico; Havana, Cuba; and New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Condition: **There are some old glued repairs to the floral crest at the top of the mirror. Minor chips and losses. The drop carving at the console apron is loose and has a small loss. Old repairs to the floral finial in the stretcher. Scattered rubbing and wear to the gilded surface. Does not appear to have been touched up. Shrinkage consistent with age. The marble top has an old repaired front-to-back crack. The front right leg is missing one its carved elements.
