Napoleon III Mahogany, Exotic Woods and Marble-Top Commode

late 19th century, the demi-lune marble top bound by four raised ormolu maiden's heads, above a conforming frieze fitted with three drawers, all banded and with parquetry veneers, above two central drawers inlaid with an elaborate floral urn pattern, flanked to either side by two open mirrored rounded shelves, with galleries and mirrored backs, raised on tapering circular legs ending in brass caps.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition, exhibiting minor wear, shrinkage and normal indications of age and use.

    The case appears tight and stable.

    The marble top is in very good condition with a few minor fleabites along the back edge. It may be a good replacement.

    Drawers retain their locks. No key present.

    Veneer is in very good condition, with a handful of scattered minor imperfections including one small tear in veneer, a 1/8" dia. loss at the top edge of the middle drawer, a small loss and re-glued splinter at a top corner of the lower drawer and a square loss, about 1/4" x 1/4", in the apron.

    A piece of ormolu on the bottom edge of the case is loose.
