Napoleon III Ebonized and Marble-Top Parlor Cabinet, third quarter 19th century, the rectangular marble top with a recessed center section, above a conforming case fitted with a single cupboard door, centered by a raised oval panel featuring a brass-inlaid classical figure, raised on block feet, the whole accented with decorative brass banding and ormolu mounts, h. 44", w. 35", d. 16-1/2".

  • Condition: The case appears to be tight, solid and stable. The marble top exhibits a few customary minor chips and flakes to the perimeter edges. The door exhibits vertical veneer tears about 3" in from its outside edges, and a corresponding horizontal one along the bottom. There are a number of losses to the brass stringing in the areas around those tears, as well as a number of losses to the brass stringing around the central inlay. A number of the losses have been filled or painted-in. There is a loose end of brass stringing on the lower part of one return. The other side exhibits indications of loose stringing that has been imperfectly laid back down. Several minor veneer flakes, most notably along the edges of brass inlay.
