Near Pair of American Colonial Revival Glass, Brass and Marble Sinumbra-Style Lamps

fourth quarter 19th century, probably made by Pairpoint, one with single light and beige alabaster base, the other with three lights and white marble base, both with stepped bases and tapered fluted brass standards terminating in lotus-molded capitals, the frosted and cut glass shades resting on prism-hung holders.
h. 30-1/4" and 31-1/2", dia. 10-3/4"

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

  • Condition: **One lamp is lacking a strand of prisms. A few other prisms have some scattered losses and chips to their edges. Lamp standards and bases are intact with some light scratches, accretions and oxidation to brass elements. One lamp retains its font with remnant of white paint. One shade is older and has some scattered nicks and chips to its fitter rim; the other is newer and has none. Neither shade is likely period. Both lamps are electrified, and are lacking their burner parts.

Lamps are a NEAR pair, not a pair proper. One lamp has an alabaster/beige marble base, not white marble. The same example is 1-1/4" taller with shade, has its font intact and has one light. The lamp with the white marble base is slightly shorter, lacks its font and has three lights.
