Near Pair of Gorham Sterling Silver Entree Dishes

fourth quarter 19th century (one with date mark of 1886), Providence, Rhode Island, each with an identical bulbous oval base decorated with repousse floral rococo scrolls and cartouches on a matte ground and raised on four rocaille feet, with variant lobed, domed lids and applied rims decorated en suite, with large acanthus bud finials.

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition with no significant dents or scratches noted and only minor wear to the well-detailed decoration. One dish has an insignificant 3/16" crack on the underside of the rim. High polish, slight thinning and light hammer marks on the underside suggest that an inscription may have been removed from the underside of one or both dishes. Both pieces marked (on the underside) with the Gorham "lion-anchor-G" trademark and "Sterling". The larger dish additionally with the model number "346" and the Gorham date mark for 1886 (a Maltese cross). Marks well-worn but legible.
