Near Pair of Victorian Writing Slopes Now Mounted as Side Tables

third quarter 19th century, each with brass fittings, including a mahogany example with square corners, and a rosewood example with rounded corners, the writing surface covered in gilt-stamped leather, the interior fittings with ink pots, on Chippendale-style rosewood stands.
overall h. 24", w. 21", d. 12"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition.

The cases are tight at their joints and the hinges secure. The bases do not exhibit any wobble or play.

The cases appear to have been polished some time ago. They now exhibit some rubbing and wear to the top surface, and some light scattered oxidation to the brass.

NOTE: One case is mahogany, the other rosewood. The rosewood one is on a FAUX rosewood stand. The other a mahogany stand. The bases are NOT rosewood.

One has a fairly new inset leather writing surface. The other an inset tooled leather surface exhibiting some wear. One retains a pair of glass ink bottles. The other has wells for similar pots, but they are absent.
