New Orleans Market Mahogany and Rosewood Half-Tester Bed, Attributed to the New Orleans Warerooms of Prudent Mallard

third quarter 19th century, the serpentine tester on cluster-column posts supporting a paneled headboard with open carved crest, the headboard joined to a footboard with like panel and posts, the serpentine rails with upholstered top edges.
h. 126", inside w. 63", l. 83", outside w. 69", l. 95"

Provenance: The Estate of Frank Fasullo, New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **In very good polished and restored condition. The piece exhibits normal minor shrinkage, mars and wear, most all beneath the polished finish.

    Tight and functional.

    No notable losses observed.

The tester is mahogany rather than rosewood. The form/style is correct for this bed. It is slightly narrow at its interface with the posts. The upper sections of the posts appear to be re-built or replaced.

The headboard crest appears to be a well-carved replacement.

There is some wear to the upholstery on top of the side rails, including one tear.
